Benefits of Mental Math

 Benefits of Mental Math

Mental Math is doing calculations mentally without using any physical calculating tool like calculators, computers, etc., and even pen and paper...

Mental Math is like gyming for the brain the same as we do physical exercise for keeping our body fit. This activity stimulates the brain and keeps it active. This ability is best developed in the early years of life, particularly between 5 to 14.

Let us understand how doing mental math actually stimulates the brain of a child and what are the other benefits acquired if this ability is developed.

When a child learns to calculate mentally with the help of an external tool, the child has to visualize the numbers and do all the computing in the brain to reach a correct answer. This generates a better sense of numbers. In effect, the process develops an understanding of how the numbers interact with each other according to the various arithmetic operators.

Since the process requires the child to constantly involve both the left and right hemispheres of the brain to perform the calculations, It increases the logical thinking ability.

Since the use of an external tool is not involved, and all computations are done in the mental space, the speed of calculations is very high and so is the accuracy of the answers.

Mental math has a lot to do with improving the memory and recall ability of a child.
